I have been playing as long as I can remember either in or out of bands, playing acoustically and electrically. And still am with a lot of local musicians who are just downright amazing -Fate To Decide, Say No To Tango, Black Catfish, Burnings Embers and others like the Lavenders and many others, And of course myself and Leona of The Red. All of us played at the Portside, a little bar in Petone Wellington, New Zealand which was a haven for musicians ably fostered and supported by the proprietor Aaron. And sadly gone but through those wonderful people we went on to play as The Red at the Fringe Bar hosted by Joe Standeven of Fate To Decide, and at Miaow Cafe hosted by Shaun O'Brien of Dandy Lager. And at Medusa with April Fish and Rosa hosted by Meagan of Rose. Plus I played at Open Mics at Bar Bodega and at San Francisco Bath House hosted by Peter of Rose.
I learned classical guitar(which I still enjoy) from a number of teachers over the years, hence my liking for playing guitar in a lot of minor keys:). But I also play slide guitar, inspired by Brian Jones of the Stones initially but then got into Homesick James(not to be confused with Elmore James)who has an echoey like style which I loved, which you can find on the Chicago Blues 3 CD compilation. I like a lot of music ranging from the blues, to classical, to dance music-especially Thievery Corporation who are really masters of their art. Really I just like music.
My CD “Phosphorescence” was released on 21 October 2006. The CD was produced and recorded by Dave Russell at Sky Lab Studios in Sydney.
I wrote and sang all songs, and played guitars and vocals. Programming and keyboard arrangements are by Phil Groves of Sydney, with additional instrumentation by Dave Russell (a former Wellingtonian).
I did an earlier CD- “56 Coopers Lane” which was released in 1998 and received favourable reviews. This CD featured me on vocals/guitars, helped out by members of Sydney group the Hippos. The CD was also recorded at Sky Lab Studios in Sydney in 1995 and 1997.
My latest ambition is to do an album of tracks that have influenced me and took me into guitar playing in the first place :)
And to continue playing, enjoying and learning more about the guitar.
